How to Export Your Data

Recipinned gives you full control over your data by allowing you to export all your recipes at any time. Whether you want to create a backup, migrate to another system, or simply have an offline copy of your recipes, the data export feature makes it easy.

Available Export Formats

You can export your recipes in two different formats:

  • Text Format – Plain text files that are easy to read and print. Perfect for creating physical backups or sharing recipes outside of Recipinned.
  • JSON Format – Structured data format ideal for developers or importing into other recipe management systems. Includes all recipe metadata and structured information.

If you’re not sure which format to choose, the text format is recommended for most users.

How to Export Your Data

Exporting your data is a simple process that takes just a few clicks:

  1. Navigate to Your Account Settings

    • Click on your profile menu in the top navigation
    • Select “Account & Settings” from the dropdown menu
    • This will take you to the User Settings page
    • Click on “Account” in the sidebar menu

  2. Find the Data Export Section

    • Scroll down to the “Data Export” section
    • You’ll see two export options: Text and JSON

  3. Choose Your Export Format

    • Click “Export” on either the Text or JSON option
    • The export process will begin immediately

  4. Download Your Data

    • Your browser will automatically download a file containing all your recipes
    • The file will be saved to your default downloads folder

What Gets Exported

When you export your data, you’ll receive:

  • All your recipes – Every recipe you’ve created or saved
  • Recipe details – Ingredients, instructions, cooking times, and servings
  • Recipe notes – Any personal notes you’ve added to your recipes
  • Recipe metadata – Categories, tags, and other organizational information

Note: Exported data includes only your personal recipes. Shared cookbooks and meal plans are not included in the export.

Privacy & Security

Your exported data is generated on-demand and sent directly to your browser. No copies are stored on our servers beyond your original recipes. You maintain full control over the exported files.
